What winter bliss
The many faces of sparkling white.
When you hear "winter in the Dolomites", it is pistes and ski lifts that probably come to mind first. But in the winter in Val Gardena, there are many more doors open to you than just those of the gondolas. Glide towards the sun on the cross-country ski trail? Cruise across the Alpe di Siusi with two horsepower? Or let the powdery snow fly on a ski tour ascent? Enjoy the great gift of free choice!
After a short gondola ride, 80 kilometres of cross-country ski trails lie ahead of you on the Alpe di Siusi. Where the sun warms your skin you and shines all day long. Monte Pana in Santa Cristina and the Vallunga valley near Selva Gardena also offer cross-country skiers fantastic scenery. Nine cross-country skiing areas in the heart of the Dolomites have joined together to form Dolomiti NordicSki and can be explored with a single ski pass.
In Val Gardena you can make it to the top even without cable cars and ski lifts - with two boards and skins off the slopes. You will be rewarded with a descent on pristine powder snow slopes. In order to be able to experience this enjoyment in safety, we advise you to join guided ski tours with local mountain guides.
Hooves crunch through the fresh snow, the white landscape passes you by to the right and left and you make yourself comfortable under warm blankets. It couldn't be more romantic! Discover the diversity of Val Gardena or the vastness of the Alpe di Siusi without the hard work: on a sleigh or carriage ride.
A six-kilometre-long toboggan run winds its way from the top station of the Resciesa funicular to the valley in Ortisei. Thanks to the funicular's middle station, the upper part of the track can be used more often. The gondolas of the Alpe di Siusi cable car, which glide past the hotel almost within reach also take you to toboggan runs of varying lengths and difficulty.
Ice skating has a long tradition in Val Gardena. Each village has its own ice skating rink. The Setil natural ice skating rink in Ortisei is a few minutes' walk away at the valley station of the Alpe di Siusi cable car. You can glide over the freshly prepared ice every day from the end of November to around mid-February. Ice skates are available to rent on site.
